TONGUE IS A FIRE
James 3: 6 -“And the tongue is a fire…”
James 3: 2 - “…. If any man offend not in word, the same is a
perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.”
James 3: 9-12
9 Therewith
bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after
the similitude of God.
10 Out of the
same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a
fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig
tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain
both yield salt water and fresh.
Matthew 12:34-37
34 O generation
of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man
out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil
man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say
unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account
thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified,
and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
I. TONGUE HAS AUTHORITY
AND POWER
Matthew 17:20-“And Jesus
said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have
faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence
to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 21:21-“Jesus
answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt
not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye
shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea;
it shall be done.
Deuteronomy 30:19-“I call
heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you
life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your
descendants may live”
Deuteronomy 30:11 – 15
11 For this commandment which I
command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that
thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us,
that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea,
that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto
us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh
unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15 See, I have set before thee
this day life and good, and death and evil;
Proverbs 18:21-“Death and
life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit
thereof.”
Job 22:28-“Thou shalt also
decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall
shine upon thy ways.” (decree – decide
and declare)
II. MOSES IS ASKED TO SPEAK
TO THE ROCK
1.
Then came the children of Israel
into the desert
of Zin in the first month
2.
The people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and
was buried there.
3.
There was no water for the congregation: and they
gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
4.
And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD
into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
5.
And Moses and Aaron went unto the door of the
tabernacle, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared
unto them.
Numbers 20: 7,
8
7 And the
LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
8 Take the
rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their
eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them
water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts
drink.
1
Corinthians 10:4 – “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they
drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
{followed...: or, went with them}
6.
Once God asked Moses to strike at the rock for water.
(Exodus 17:6)
7.
After years God asked the same person to speak to the
rock for water.
8.
I Corinthians 10:4 implies that they were drinking from
the same ( going through the same experience) for all these years
9.
It is interesting to think how the rock stopped to give
them water.
10. No
where it is said about scarcity of water in the desert after the Exodus 17:6
event.
11. So
it seems that the blessing once Israelites enjoyed stopped in Kadesh.
12. Now
to get it back again into our life – the only way is to believe and SPEAK.
III. LET FIRE CONSUME DEVIL’S
WORKS
1.
Let our tongue sent forth Holy fire that will consume
dark forces
2.
Fill your heart with Holy Spirit
3.
Holy Spirit will overflow through your tongue
Matthew 12:34-“O generation
of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Matthew 15:18-“But those
things which proceed out of the mouth come forth
from the heart; and they defile the man.
4.
Only a heart filled with life can produce life giving
words
5.
Words that comes out of Spirit filled heart is fire
that consume all bondages of Satan
1 John 3:8-“He who commits
sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason
the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”
6.
God has given us power and authority to loosen, destroy
and cast out devil.
Matthew 10:1-“And when he
had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean
spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of
disease.”
Matthew 10:8-“Heal the
sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have
received, freely give.
IV.
FILL,
OVERFLOW, SPEAK
1.
Fill our heart with Holy Spirit (Holy Fire) and Faith
2.
Fill in full and more so that it overflows through your
tongue
3.
Speak it – it is fire that consumes and creates
Romans 10:17
– “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
